Casa

This week, Casa children were introduced to the 4 families of musical instruments – woodwind, string, brass, and percussion, where they learned some names of instruments.  We accompanied our favourite songs with tambourines and maracas.  We tried playing the recorder, xylophone, and Africa Drum.  We learned about rhythm and pitch. Ms. Melody showed us her flute and Mr. Anthony brought in his violin.  We made a tambourine and guitar out of paper plates, and a shaker out of plastic bottles.  On Wednesday, we had a pet show where children met a tortoise, a frog, a chinchilla, a pair of ferrets, a skink and a hedgehog.  The children touched them and learned a little bit about what they eat and where they are from.

Pre-Casa

On Wednesday, Pre-Casa children experienced the comfort of having animal friends. Though some children hesitated in touching the little animals, those who petted them (a chinchilla, a guinea pig, a rabbit, a tortoise and a ferret) enjoyed the softness and the sensorial feeling.

Aside from the event, pre-casa children were busy learning about the moon and stars. Children were enthusiastic sorting from the sensory bin, which gave them ideas about day and night. Children developed fine-motor skills and made a paper plate moon using a brush, made a star collage using fingers, and coloured the moon using oil pastels. Children were also encouraged to read books to emphasize the concepts of moon, stars, and night.
